Mariecar is the arts content editor for The San Francisco Chronicle where she oversees the pop music and pop culture beats. Along with helping manage the production of The Chronicle's daily entertainment section, she spearheads live coverage of events such as San Francisco's annual Outside Lands Music Festival.
Prior to The Chronicle, Mariecar was a features digital editor for The Los Angeles News Group where she specialized in music, food and festival coverage for the region. She has also worked as a multimedia news reporter for The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Calif. where she covered city hall politics, crime and courts for nearly seven years.
Mariecar is a Bay Area native and a proud alumna of the Chips Quinn Scholar program and AAJA Voices 2006. She also served as an AAJA-Los Angeles chapter board member for three years, with her last two terms as vice president of print.
She currently serves as a co-director of the affinity group AAJA Features Forum, which aims to provide services and support for features, arts, entertainment and lifestyles journalists of color.
