Dawn Garcia is Director of the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford University, a 10-month program that brings up to 20 accomplished journalists to campus each year to foster journalism innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership.

Previously, Dawn was a newspaper reporter and editor for 18 years. She earned an MA in liberal arts at Stanford and a BA in journalism at the University of Oregon. She was a 1991-92 Stanford Knight Fellow.

She has served four times as a Pulitzer Prize juror, and has been active in supporting diversity in the media and press freedom issues. She is a past president of the Journalism & Women Symposium, a national nonprofit organization of women journalists and journalism educators.

She lives in Redwood City with her husband, outdoors adventurer and author Paul McHugh.
